Portland Harbor Museum is a 501(c)(3) educational organization. Contributions to the Museum are tax deductible. There are many ways to give.
Gifts by Check
Simply make your check payable to
“Portland Harbor Museum,” and mail it to the Museum:
510 Congress Street, Portland, ME 04101
Placing your Gift on a Credit Card
PHM accepts Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. We can take
your credit card information over the phone – (207) 773-3800.
Gifts of Securities
Ask your financial advisor about the tax benefits of
contributing appreciated securities to PHM. Current tax laws
permit individuals to deduct as a charitable contribution the
full market value of appreciated securities (if you have owned
the securities for at least one year). In addition, the donor
avoids the payment of capital gains taxes on any appreciation.
Pension Protection Act of 2006
The Pension Protection Act of 2006 allows individuals to transfer IRA assets directly to museums and other charities without counting the funds as income and paying income tax. Such gifts also avoid the early withdrawal penalty. The provision applies only to donors who are over 70 1/2 years of age and gifts up to $100,000 per year. The Act is due to expire on December 31, 2007.
Matching Gifts
Some employers offer matching contributions
to charitable gifts made by their employees.
Planned Gifts
Include PHM in your will or trust. With planned gifts, you retain the use of current assets and help secure PHM’s future at the same time. For more information about planned gifts, call Mark Thompson at (207) 773-3800 or e-mail: contact@portlandharbormuseum.org
