This permanent exhibit tells her story using bow sections and early wooden ship building tools. ~ "The Lighthouses of Casco Bay" interprets the many local lighthouses which have protected mariners over the centuries. It includes an original fresnel lens and Lyle gun used to rescue shipwrecked seamen. Bug Light Park and the Liberty Ship Memorial are less than a mile away....a pleasant seaside walk. Bug Light marks the entrance to Portland Harbor. For a number of years it was discontinued, but recently was relighted and now is used as an aid to navigation.
Liberty Ship Memorial Park commemorates the South Portland shipyard where Liberty Ships for the British and United States merchant marine fleets were constructed during World War II.
