Visit Portland Harbor Museum's maritime exhibits:

~ "They Came By Sea: Portland Harbor, A Tourist Destination" opens April, 2001- ongoing through December. Using striking images, artifacts and interesting text, this exhibit will feature the 19th century tourists who arrived on steamers, drawn by the charisma of sparkling blue water, quiet islands, delicious seafood and a rich maritime history.

~ "The Clipper Ship Snow Squall," launched in the harbor in 1851 and brought back from the Falkland Islands in 1987 after her discovery as the only surviving clipper ship. This permanent exhibit tells her story using bow sections and early wooden ship building tools.

~ "The Lighthouses of Casco Bay" interprets the many local lighthouses which have protected mariners over the centuries. It includes an original fresnel lens and Lyle gun used to rescue shipwrecked seamen.

Portland Harbor Museum is handicapped accessible with ample parking on the Southern Maine Technical College campus in South Portland. Admission: Adults $3; Ages 6-16 $1; Groups of 40 or more $2 with tour directors and bus drivers free. Open daily 10am - 4:30pm during July, August & September - other months call for hours. Will gladly open for groups by appointment.

Sincerely,
Linda McLoon, Museum Director
