PORTLAND HARBOR MUSEUM TO HOST "RESIDENT APPRECIATION DAYS

On June 21st , Portland Harbor Museum will open its doors to residents
of South Portland, Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough for half price, making
an adult admission $2 and a children's admission $1. This will take
place from 10 am - 4:30 pm at Portland Harbor Museum on the Southern
Maine Technical College campus in South Portland.

"We hope to encourage people to visit the wonderful treasure that is in
their own backyard." remarked Director, Martina Duncan. "So often we
visit cultural sites that are far afield, but this gives residents a
chance to see what makes their own harbor community special." Residents
only need to bring a document that shows their name and address to
receive this discount.

This summer Portland Harbor Museum has mounted a new exhibit, A Day in
the Life of Portland Harbor, which explores the everyday life of people
throughout the last two hundred years in the Greater Portland region.
There are several hands-on activities, as well as unique displays of
ship models and rare pieces from the World War II South Portland
Shipyards.

The museum plans to host two more Resident Appreciation Days during the
summer. On July 19th Portland residents will be invited to visit the
museum at a discount, and on August 9th Falmouth, Cumberland and
Yarmouth residents will be offered the same invitation. "Portland
Harbor Museum strives to preserve the heritage of our harbor, past
present and future," Duncan said, "We want to share this with the people
who live and work everyday in our harbor community."
