CHOWDERFEST
AND AUCTION SET FOR JUNE 27
Portland Harbor Museum will host its Fourth Annual Chowderfest dinner
and auction at 6 PM, Friday, June 27 in the Dining Hall of South
Portland's Southern Maine Technical College, overlooking Portland
Harbor's shipping channel.
A variety of maritime
items have been donated to this year's auction: a
ride on the oil spill response vessel the Maine Responder; a long
weekend's stay at a Little Cranberry Island cottage; and a tour for four
of the Cianbro oil rigs on Portland's waterfront. The evening begins
with a social hour, live music, and a silent auction. The silent
auction will feature signed artwork, gift certificates to local
businesses and local interest books.
This year's Chowderfest
is Portland Harbor Museum's largest fundraiser.
"Events such as this one are vital for the ongoing financial health
of
the organization," remarked Polly Burke, this year's co-chair of
the
Chowderfest committee. This dinner and auction supports the museum's
educational programming that allows visitors to gain a more in-depth
understanding of the Portland Harbor community's unique maritime
heritage. The educational programming includes special lectures,
exhibits and family-centered events.
Tickets are $30
per person and all reservations must be paid in advance.
Included in the admission price is a guided tour of Spring Point Ledge
Lighthouse available from 4:30 to 6 pm. The museum and gift shop also
will be open. Call 799.6337 or e-mail info@portlandharbormuseum.org for
information or to make reservations.
Lunch with Capt.
Jeff Monroe and a ride on Portland's Fire Boat is one
of the this year's auction items
